I have always had more fascination with the Moorish occupation of the Iberian peninsula and have never visited Barcelona even if this is a rather popular place to go to when you are Dutch. The very beginning was pretty interesting, and I found the character of a young man essentially raising his baby alone with his remote wife as a successful medieval serf in pastoral Spain very compelling.
There is nothing to be sorry for. The novel is informative and as it is based bj historical fact I did learn a good deal about the history of fourteenth century Barcelona.
